FALL In Love with Your Home!

Whether you are planning to stay in your home, or if you are planning to sell, you deserve to love your home.

With fall upon us, its time to create inspiration indoors. Fall is a time of falling leaves; why not shed the items in our homes that no longer serve us? This is a real cathartic process and so liberating. I always feel the clarity, and opportunity for something new and I love to donate things. Plan to layer warm textures with twinkling lights and candles, for the darker evenings. A chunky cream throw reminiscent of an Arran sweater is so cozy. Of course linen runners and cream candles always perform. Fireplaces are wonderful hangouts. A stack of books, be it design, yoga or travel, with a juxtaposed orchid evokes a timeless tempting retreat, all right in your own home! And you can thrown on some classical tunes.

Maybe you want to invest in artwork for your walls that really moves you. (I just did! Check out www.rosecowles.com who is showcasing her work with other artists at The 4 Art Studio Exhibit Gallery at 636 Fort Street.) The colours from a new piece can be used subtly in cushions, napkins or pottery. Even your book covers!

At this time of year, there are fallen branches and coloured leaves that can make a wonderful centrepiece. This brings us to the dining room table. How wonderful to dream about a dinner party with close friends to enjoy the local harvest. Your table theme can be a take off of what you may be most grateful for. This year, I will choose Health. Amazing dishes can be created with our abundant local ingredients. To truly motivate you, check out local author Julie Cove’s new book Eat Better, Live better, Feel Better or her website www.alkalinesisters.com. You will be blown away at the beautiful photography and recipes that are so healthy. Dining with intention, in beauty with loved ones is the best thing for the soul.

On a bigger scale, you may finally decide to go for the whole kitchen overhaul! Everyone is renovating, and continuing to capture the values in our biggest investment. You can’t go wrong, as the personal enjoyment of the new space is very invigorating and you have just increased your home’s resale value. I would always suggest using professionals to guide you in the right direction with this bigger expense.

Embrace this time of year, as it really is about exciting new beginnings. Happy Home and Happy Harvest!

Have fun…
Cydney
